Today’s Best Bets: Things That Already Happened

This is administrative, but if the Hurricanes close it out tonight, it’ll be the end of these bets’ 2025–26 fiscal year. If the series goes to Game 7, that fiscal year will end on Wednesday.

Good work by the Knicks.

Seattle at Washington
Houston at Kansas City
Los Angeles at Chicago (AL)
Tampa Bay at Anaheim

This is silly, but because we’re down 5% on the fiscal year and the Hurricanes winning would only make us be down 4%, we’re going to take a big longshot MLB moneyline parlay. All four of these teams lost yesterday. Three have the pitching advantage. The fourth, the White Sox, has been overperforming and is throwing Erick Fedde for the plurality of innings. We’ve bet against Fedde a lot the last few years, but this season he hasn’t been that bad. If it works, amazing—we’ll be slightly profitable on the fiscal year if the Hurricanes do win. If it doesn’t, we won’t really notice the 25 units lost. It’s one of those situations where our utility isn’t linear.

Pick: Parlay – Seattle, Kansas City, Chicago, Tampa Bay to win +1567. 25.00 units to win 391.75.

AL West

The A’s have won four straight, the Mariners have dropped three of four, and it’s the weekend so not every sportsbook has updated their pricing.

Pick: Sacramento to win +820. 2.00 units to win 16.40.

AL Central

José Ramírez is out indefinitely, and only his Guardians and the suspect White Sox are ahead of the Twins in the Central. We’re not saying they’re the favorites or anything, but 16-to-1 is long in that division.

Pick: Minnesota to win +1600. 2.00 units to win 32.00.

World Cup

There are a lot of good options today. Limiting ourselves to two, we’ll take Germany to win it all (if they really blow out Curacao today, we could see their odds lengthening) and Australia to reach the quarters (not every sportsbook has updated every market to account for last night’s statement).

Pick: Australia to reach quarterfinals +1500. 1.00 unit to win 15.00.
Pick: Germany to win World Cup +1700. 1.00 unit to win 17.00.

These numbers are for the 2025–26 effort, which will end at the end of the Stanley Cup Final (whichever comes second). We’ll track the 2026–27 campaign in more detail when it’s fully underway (it’s partly underway right now with our MLB futures and World Cup futures portfolios).

2025–26: –486.74 units (started with 1,000-unit bankroll)

2025–26: –5% average ROI (weighted by unit; sample size: 1,172 single-game markets plus eight completed futures portfolios and one partly completed futures portfolio)

Pre-2025: 0% average ROI (worse when limited to only sports)

Units taken from best odds we can find at major sportsbooks available to most Americans.
