Why Hello, Alabama

Hey Oats!
Hey Oats!
Hey Oats!
We’re gonna spend our March with you!

You are bad, Alabummer!

We had our doubts about Alabama’s NIT chances. We’d heard the hype. We’d seen the recruiting numbers. We remembered what Nate Oats did at Buffalo.

Then, they took the floor against Stanford last night, and led by a heroic one-for-eight effort from Jaden Shackelford, they missed 22 threes. Even in a game in which they forced 22 turnovers (one per missed three, which is…ok?), Alabama lost by so many points the margin could buy itself scratch-off tickets.

Now, we get to see Alabama play a straight-up bad UNLV team. We can’t wait.

Elsewhere:

  • Providence and Davidson are getting the attention, but the NIT game of the day might be up in Uncasville, where BYU and USC are squaring off in a battle of a team we like right now vs. Andy Enfield, whom we absolutely loathe.
  • Western Kentucky’s got another chance (this one at Louisville) to build a résumé that will be left out of the other tournament, and will absolutely infuriate very-online mid-major basketball nerds when it is.
  • Stanford, North Carolina, and Indiana may have squelched our respective NIT hopes for them a bit, but we do have Marquette making an attempt today, meeting up with our good friends from Stillwater.
