What Is Ink?

Does anybody know what ink is?

This is a question of lesser importance than it once was. For me, anyway. I used to live under the sea, where ink was a significant concern, especially because I lived in Squid City, which is somewhere between Auckland and St. Petersburg, unless you’re viewing the area between those oppositely from how I’m viewing it, in which case it’s somewhere not between Auckland and St. Petersburg.

Now that ink, I understand. Squid ink is prune juice. Always has been. Goes right through ‘em. But human ink. What is that?

Is it liquid coal?

Is it plastic?

Is it toxic chemicals stepped on a bunch of times by elephants and slapped with eels to get it all wet?

Is it even real?

If you know what this suspicious substance found inside our pens, outside our pens, and occasionally on those weird stacks of parchment in the metal receptacles on city streets is, please let me know.

Thank you.
