Welcome Baack, MAAC

MAAC games start tonight, so let us celebrate it for a moment. This league:

  • Has Rick Pitino in it.
  • Is pronounced by making a sheep or goat noise.
  • Has teams named the Golden Griffins, Stags, Gaels, Jaspers (and Lady Jaspers), Red Foxes, Hawks, Purple Eagles, Bobcats, Broncs, Peacocks (and Peahens), and Saints.
  • Has Greg Paulus in it unless he got fired or died or something.
  • Played its tournament in Atlantic City last year.
  • Plays on Fridays a lot.

What a joy to see it return.

Other NIT notes for today:

  • St. John’s trip across the Hudson is a big one for both themselves and Seton Hall. It’s also a big one for us. Big East play, already delivering.
  • Marquette and UCLA are not yet safe from our reaches, and one figures to become less safe tonight. Come to us, friends. You know what your heart is saying.
  • Iowa State, Georgetown, and Nebraska all have chances to prop up weak NIT cases.
  • The Dakota thing is still going on. By which we mean that round robin in Sioux Falls. Not just, like, the Dakotas in general. Though those too continue to exist.

Happy Friday.
