We forgot to talk about the fight.
And it was a big one.
On Tuesday night in South Bend, someone on the Fort Wayne TinCaps (Padres affiliate) said something to Delvin Zinn that resulted in Zinn needing to be restrained. The next half-inning, Brandon Hughes of the Cubs knocked down Kelvin Melean of the TinCaps before striking him out, and when Melean started raging at Hughes after the strikeout, the fight began:
Wild stuff. Still no word on suspensions. The TinCaps are named in honor of Johnny Appleseed, and I for one think they no longer deserve that name and it should be given to someone more peaceful, like Chapman was (though you know we love a good fight). Unclear which TinCap threw the baseball into the fracas (man, love that word), but it hit a Fort Wayne player in the back of the head, which is the best possible thing for a thrown baseball to do in a brawl if you’re trying to discourage others from throwing baseballs in brawls.
We may or may not remember to update you when the suspensions come down. But we wanted you to know this happened. Because it’s awesome. (If, you know, you want it to be—there are plenty of ways to present it as less awesome to yourself, but hey, you’re not going to change it, so might as well enjoy it, right?)
