They Let Joe Kelly Bat Again

Joe Kelly outings generate so much content.

First, Joe Kelly has a mustache and a mullet now. Both are in their early stages, and I’m posting pictures of neither here because I’m scared of Major League Baseball’s intellectual property infringement enforcers (and I don’t want to show how creepy I am on Instagram), but let’s say it’s because this needs to be in the whisper stage. Old school, that way. “Hey,” the guy at the barber shop says to the other, “I heard Joe Kelly has a mustache and a mullet now.” “Well I’ll be. Dodgers are in town next week. Should we check it out?”

Second, they let Joe Kelly bat again. He didn’t get to show off his wheels, because he dribbled one off the end of the bat to first, (Was the bat too short? People are asking.) but he did take some good cuts, fouled off a two-strike pitch, and was clearly having a conversation with the catcher, which is always a fun gimmick as a reliever hitting. I feel like if they let him hit enough times, he’ll hit an inside-the-park home run, because that just feels like the kind of thing Joe Kelly does.

Third, he pitched well again. Got a double play to bail out his friend David (I like to think David said “thank you” but did it later, in a shy way), got two more groundouts, gave up a single but it wasn’t the smacked kind. All good things. Joe Kelly is rocking. FIP’s 4.21. xERA’s 4.42. Gotta be getting close to cracking 0.1 fWAR.

We rock alongside him.
