The Odds:
Senators are at +260 to win. Which is longer than the odds are most of the time. Which I think means the Canadiens are good.
Senators News:
Ok, I can’t just keep leaving this blank. I checked the Senators’ site, and it doesn’t look like there’s any big news. I then decided I should try to learn the lines. Or at least some of them. And in looking for it, I stumbled on Daily Faceoff. Researching these guys (looking for reddit threads on the topic), it looks like they’re legitimate? Hopefully I’m not being steered in the wrong direction. Anyway, the site’s got player rankings that I think are for fantasy purposes, and this is very helpful for someone like me trying to figure out who the players to know are. I already know Brady Tkachuk (one of the alternate captains, getting the impression he’s a big part of the future core). I already know Tim Stützle (rookie). I already know Matt Murray (vaguely remembered him with the Penguins, so just looked him up: Won two Stanley Cups with the Penguins when he was real young, better and higher-paid than I realized). I know Austin Watson (has the legal history from Nashville, does some fighting). I know I should know Thomas Chabot (looked him up, he’s younger than I realized, is signed for a long time, and is evidently the other alternate captain and evidently the Senators don’t have a non-alternate captain right now).
So that’s where I’m at right now: I know five players on the Senators. Also know Marcus Högberg (backup goalie, so easy to know), so I guess I know six. I vaguely remember the names of others, but it seems like Chabot, Tkachuk, Stützle, and Murray are a good start, especially because Daily Faceoff makes it look like there aren’t other players who are better than those four, and all four should theoretically be around for a bit. Gonna work on expanding this knowledge. Also gonna work on following SensChirp a bit more closely, since they’re an independent blog and evidently rather popular amongst by fellow Senators fans.
And through that, I’ve found news! Erik Brännström’s been recalled from Belleville, the AHL team, and put on the taxi squad. He’ll play tonight. He was evidently a first-round pick for Vegas back in 2017 and came over in a 2019 trade, so he’s young and maybe promising? We’ll see. I now know seven Senators. And yes, I’m keeping a list in a notebook so I can try to hammer all this home.
