Joe Kelly’s Supporting Cast

MLB free agency is winding down. Well, maybe not really. There are kind of a lot of dudes unsigned. But, you know, if any of those come to Los Angeles, we can handle them one by one. For right now, let’s focus on who the Dodgers do have, especially because only a couple of the guys available would slot into this list anyway.

Without further ado. Joe Kelly’s supporting cast:

Mookie Betts

If you’re looking for a guy to play second fiddle to the greatest player in the game, it’s hard to find someone better than Mookie Betts. An MVP himself, Betts cut his MLB teeth playing alongside Kelly. He gets the right-hander. He knows the role.

Cody Bellinger

Young. Slugger. Seems like he loves Taco Bell. Perfect piece in the Joe Kelly-based core.

Corey Seager

Did you forget about him? I forgot about him. Seager had his best season yet last year after being a force in 2016 and ’17 but missing 2018 and being only really-good and not fantastically-great in ’19. Does he get as much attention as he should? I have no idea. But he’s the fourth wheel on this team, and locomotives need at least four wheels.

Walker Buehler

Joe Kelly’s primary setup man, Walker Buehler’s job is to keep the game close enough for Joe Kelly to end with a decisive, dazzling performance. Before handing it over to whoever’s closing, of course. Buehler does this well.

Clayton Kershaw

The wily veteran. Always good to have one of those in the supporting cast.
