One of the aspects of the European NIT that I think the American NIT should get behind, even if it risks my health through the sheer exhilaration such a development would bring, is that it’s almost year-round. Championship takes place in what, May? And here we are in July with games already being played.
Technically, no, the Europa League hasn’t had any matches yet. Those don’t begin for a few more weeks. But because the tournament has a few paths in from the Champions League (which helps make it so wonderfully convoluted and therefore full of joy), matches are going on that decide who will make the Europa League (side note: The fact some teams play in the Champions League in their effort to make the Europa League demonstrates yet again the NIT’s superiority over all challengers). They’re going on right now! Or earlier today. Or something. They’ve been happening over the last few days and might still be happening. I get most of my European NIT news from Wikipedia and it doesn’t always update that fast.
Anyway, European NIT is basically underway again. What fun.
