Stu’s Notes: Merry NIT Season Eve

It’s here. NIT Season Eve. What is that, you ask?

I’m glad you asked.

NIT Season Eve is this wonderful day between college football and the heat of college basketball season, or as some call it, college basketball season being in heat. Today, we reflect on Georgia’s dominance. Tonight, we watch Florida State and Miami slop it up. Tomorrow, we begin the NIT speculation for both those teams in earnest.

Let’s hit it.

Andy Enfield’s in Trouble

NIT Season Eve’s off to a merry start, with Andy Enfield’s USC Trojans struggling against CBI hopeful Stanford up in Palo Alto. It’s late in the second half there as I type this, but ideally, USC will lose by twenty (they currently lead by three, it appears). Also ideally, Andy Enfield will rip his pants. Also also ideally, his underwear will be really offensive and he’ll get thrown in jail, not because of the underwear being offensive but because he’ll try to strangle a security guard with it (unsuccessfully, of course).

Game of the NITe

I’ve already hinted at it, it’s Miami/Florida State. The kind of game that makes you say, “Oh yeah, those schools play basketball too.” Miami is famously surging through the college basketball ranks, having beaten Pooke (Puke reads better but Pooke is funnier, I think). Florida State is not that famously having a slightly down year. More underwhelming than you could imagine.

Other games of NIT note:

  • Oklahoma State at West Virginia
  • Saint Louis at Dayton (sleeper game)
  • Mississippi at Texas A&M
  • DePaul at Marquette but only of note because I love Shaka Smart Marquette should roll those Vincentians

Burnley’s Wood Gets Chopped

As happy a eve as this eve is, we’d be remiss if we didn’t lament Burnley selling off Chris Wood to Newcastle, a move that makes one of Burnley’s three competitors for avoiding relegation better while making Burnley worse. Burnley no longer has any wood. And it’s getting cold.

Of course, Burnley might use that money (where’s the pound key I don’t see the pound key but I think the number is 20 million) to get some help, but they also…might not. I don’t know. The vibes are bad right now with Burnley.

Thankfully, though, again, it’s NIT Season Eve. Good luck sleeping tonight (especially after watching a game as hideous as Miami/FSU).
