Sens vs. Soviet(-Born Scorer)

Let’s just start with the Zub update because, well, Zub!

Congratulations on the child, Zub. And on the general existence.

Whom

Senators vs. Washington Capitals

When

7:00 PM Ottawa Time (EDT)

Television

ESPN+

The Odds

WSH -150; OTT +130; o/u 6 (o -120) [English translation: The Sens are roughly 42% likely to win and 58% likely to lose, the expected number of goals is roughly 6.15]

The Opponent

The Capitals are 3-0-2 so far, sit right in the mix in the Metropolitan Division and are expected to continue to be a factor there. Not amazing playoff chances, but pretty good playoff chances. Better than those of the Senators.

Alexander Ovechkin is still a Capital, and at 36 years old, he already has five goals on the year, plus five assists, two of which came in the lone goalless game. Ovechkin was born the same year Gorbachev became the USSR’s General Secretary.

The Senators

Anton Forsberg starts in goal, with Matt Murray out. The Stützle/Paul/Brown line continues with Shane Pinto out. The Sens picked up Sharks center Dylan Gambrell yesterday for a seventh-round pick which originally belonged to the Sharks anyway. Gambrell’s never worked out for the Sharks but helps cover some gaps. In related news, did you know the Sharks’ AHL team is called the Barracuda? And that the plural of barracuda can be barracuda? What an experience the Sharks are for us all.

Gambrell will join a team at some point. I don’t know if it’s Ottawa or Bellevue. Sorry.
