Leicester Was More

Sometimes, things get a little out of hand. Other times, they get a lot out of hand, but thankfully, this was one of those little-out-of-hand times.

The Result:

Leicester City triumphed over our beloved Burnleys, 4-2.

How It Happened:

After taking a tenth minute lead when Chris Wood corralled a Charlie Taylor cross and punched it in past some opposition, Burnley allowed the Foxes to even it up just ten minutes later. Harvey Barnes finished it. He went on to have a good night.

Early in the second half, the Foxes pulled away, scoring in the 50th minute, when Timothy Castagne banked one in off of Erik Pieters for what was technically an own goal, and again in the 61st, when James Justin earned Castagne an assist (I don’t know if this was actually where Castagne got his assist, or if Castagne was allowed an assist for the own goal, but either way, Castagne was involved with both of these).

There was a glimmer of hope in minute 73, when Jimmy Dunne—making his Burnley EPL debut (and possibly his overall EPL debut?)—headed in a Dwight McNeil free kick. But six minutes later, Barnes set up Dennis Praet for a screamer of a dagger.

What It Means:

Not a whole lot—just a slightly disappointing way to start EPL play. Nothing fundamental has changed, though.

What’s Next:

Next match is Wednesday, the League Cup fixture at Millwall. Next EPL match is Saturday against Southampton at home.

Other News:

Ashley Barnes played today in a U23 match—unclear when he’ll return, but good to get him some run. James Tarkowski’s supposed to come back for the Millwall game.

General Thoughts:

Rainy here today, and cooler. Doesn’t feel too British but I think that’s my own state of mind. Got dumped on a little while delivering a Five Guys order over lunch, but I think I kept the bag as dry as anyone could’ve asked. Just want those fries to come out steaming.

Burnley Thoughts:

Four goals is a lot for Nick Pope to allow, so keeping an eye on that but firmly in the our-lads-didn’t-do-enough-to-help-him camp. Also seems like in footie, goals lead to goals. Once a team’s got a two-goal lead, it feels like a free-for-all. Maybe I’m wrong. Just my opinion, man.
