Joe Kelly Remains Elite

It was a glorious night last night in Denver.

Joe Kelly got his first win of the season, and he didn’t even have to blow a lead to do it!

Joe Kelly also got his first plate appearance since 2015, and it was a successful one, with his sacrifice bunt the difference in the Dodgers’ 12-6 victory.

Joe Kelly also struck out three batters, and while he was charged with two earned runs, FIP (that counterpart to ERA that adjusts for bad luck) says the runs were bad luck and the strikeouts were him being good, which I’m sharing because it’s what I like to hear.

Kelly’s xFIP (a counterpart to FIP that assumes the homer-to-flyball ratio for pitchers is random, and therefore makes a guy who’s given up a few dingers so far look good) is now 2.64, which is pretty stinkin’ good.

So, four outings and five innings into 2019, Joe Kelly remains king, and has shown he can handle a bat as well.

Can’t wait to see him closing out the all-star game.
