Evidently my brother has “been passively watching west ham (sic) for a year now,” which I think means he got bored one morning last year and either remembered West Ham was the team from Green Street Hooligans or looked it up and decided, based on his affinity for windmill-punching hobbits, that they would be his favorites.
Anyway we have a pint of ice cream on the game today. I negotiated it to Burnley +0.5, so just need a draw, fellas. Which coincidentally would be a reasonably good result for the lads.
Whom:
Burnley @ West Ham
What:
EPL Match number 17 for the Clarets
Where:
West Ham’s pitch…which I’m pretty sure is in London. City folk. Soft.
When:
9:00 AM American Central Standard Time
How to Watch:
Looks like it’s only on Peacock. Which is good because I’m gonna be at Firestone anyway for most of it. Hope this isn’t the time the infamous other tire drops (that’s a thing—multiple Firestones have treated me great for a visit or two and then started trying to screw me over; really hope it doesn’t happen this time).
What’s at Stake:
Ice cream, mainly. But also, with Brighton (two points back of Burnley) playing at Leeds and Newcastle (three points up on Burnley) playing at Arsenal, Burnley might need a point or three to keep pace with those around them (Fulham—four points back and in the topmost relegation spot—hosts Chelsea).
The Odds:
The YAHOO SPORTS APP says BetMGM says West Ham’s a -125 favorite, with a draw at +260 and Burnley at +360. So something like a 45% chance Burnley gets at least a point.
The Opponent:
West Ham. The Hammers. Which is half a commie, when you think about it.
Burnley News:
Matěj Vydra’s name keeps buzzing around transfer rumors, which makes sense given a lot of folks have a high opinion of him and Sean Dyche isn’t using him much. There are a few rumors about Burnley grabbing a lower-league player from within England before the end of the window, but that sounds like it’s still a bit off. Charlie Taylor’s still banged up but he’s the only one now.
Bertie News:
Nothing.
