Burnley Roundup: Vydra vs. The Welsh

Ok, Burnley put together a helpful primer themselves this time, which makes this a lot easier.

Internationals

Who’s OUT

Nick Pope and Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson were both removed from their international lineups (boo!!!!!) but will presumably be back one day once England and Iceland respectively see the error of their ways (I’m willing to help with that, just say the word, guys).

Who’s IN

  • Maxwel Cornet: Ivory Coast
  • Chris Wood: New Zealand
  • Conor Roberts: Wales
  • Wayne Hennessey: Wales
  • Matěj Vydra: Czech Republic
  • Nathan Collins: Ireland
  • Bailey Peacock-Farrell (out on Loan but still a Burnleyer): Northern Ireland

When/Where/Who/Etc.

The games (between now and Saturday—next ones will be Monday, we will try to get you ready for those as well):

  • Ivory Coast vs. Malawi (in South Africa): Cornet & Co. try to get out of Group D, with this—their third of six matches—a prime opportunity to establish some distance from the pack. 9:00 AM EDT tomorrow (Friday), ESPN+
  • Wales @ Czech Republic: Big showdown in UEFA Group E, teams are tied for second but Wales has a match in hand; 2:45 PM EDT tomorrow (Friday), ESPN2
  • New Zealand vs. Curaçao (in Bahrain): Just a friendly, OFC qualifying has been mightily delayed by the Covid; 12:00 PM EDT Saturday
  • Ireland @ Azerbaijan: Ireland needs to win out to have a chance at even just making the playoff, so this is basically a friendly; 12:00 PM EDT Saturday, ESPN+
  • Northern Ireland @ Switzerland: Peacock-Farrell and friends have little hope of advancing, but to be fair, that would change with a stunner here; 2:45 PM EDT Saturday, ESPN+

Burnley FC Women

The women’s team beat Loughborough on Sunday but fell yesterday to Brighouse Town. They’re currently sixth in their division by points per match, and they’re off for a couple weeks now.

Partner Clubs

Cobh Ramblers (Ireland, second tier) visit Cabinteely tomorrow, trying to stay out of last place in the table.

Ayr United (Scotland, second tier) doesn’t appear to play again until next weekend.

Portadown (Northern Ireland, first tier) also appears to be off this weekend.

Llandudno (Wales, second tier) is likewise off this weekend.
