Addressing That Antonelli’s Cheese Shop Capital One Commercial

Alright, I’m assuming this has been bothering you too, but if you don’t know what I’m talking about, take a look:

Still confused? I guess that makes sense. Very few of you know precisely where I live.

This commercial’s been eating at me for weeks. Since the first time I saw it. The cheese shop in question is either a 0.4-mile walk from our duplex or a 0.4-mile walk from our duplex (there are two buildings, but they’re really close to each other), so when I saw it, I did the whole Leonardo DiCaprio point-at-the-tv meme. That cheese shop could’ve been me!

Of course, this isn’t how commercials work. Capital One doesn’t just pick a set of GPS coordinates and film a commercial of whatever they find at that spot (we know this because the cheese shop has two buildings, so Capital One could’ve only highlighted half the cheese shop and I saw no disclaimer to that effect in any of my watchings of the ad). Still, man! That cheese shop is close to my home!

My second thought, after pure bewilderment, was that this was a local ad. But then I started thinking about how expensive it would be to make local ads like this for every large and medium television market. My third thought was that Antonelli’s maybe had more than just the one location (besides the second building, which I think we’ve acknowledged enough). But they don’t. Wild. They just have the one spot, Capital One chose them, I am all sorts of curious about how it went down. My in-laws are visiting this weekend. I wonder if they’ve seen the commercial. I wonder if we’ll walk past the cheese shop and they’ll say, “That cheese shop feels oddly familiar.”

If not, I’m gonna have to invite a lot more people to town. Really need someone to say, “That’s the cheese shop from TV!” to balance out me saying, “That’s the cheese shop from my neighborhood!” so many times. Every time. Hasn’t worn off yet.

      1. Frankly, I’m sick.of the Antonelli’s and their cheese shop, which is nowhere near where I live, so…meh.

  1. Hahaha! I hadn’t seen this particular ad! Now I’m going to start paying more attention. Very cool! First the Weinermobile is in your hometown, and then Capital One ad campaigns are in your current town. Where will this go next????
