Why Didn’t Rob Manfred Send the Royals to London?

By all accounts, Major League Baseball’s London Series is going well. It was exciting in 2019, it’s set to be exciting this year, the fans—both English and American—are showing up in force to see a pair of sub-.500 teams pop routine fly balls over the fence at a soccer field.

But, as always, it could be better.

For the love of God, Rob Manfred, why did you not send the Kansas City Royals?

British people are obsessed with the Royals. They never stop following the Royals. They have entire tabloids devoted exclusively to the Royals. British people love the Royals so much that they accidentally killed one of them via paparazzi in 1997.

The Cubs and the Cardinals? Big brands, sure. But they’re big *American* brands. If you want to grow the game in the U.K., you have to send them their team: The guys from Kansas City led by a big ol’ Venezuelan dude behind the plate.
