Ok, so Joe Kelly didn’t have the best go of it last night.
He walked a guy. He gave up a little doinker of a double. He left the bases loaded, and while we can only assume he would have gotten out of it allowing only one run if given the chance, he was not given the chance, and two of those runners went on to score, making it a three-run-over-one-third-of-an-inning-night.
Not his best night, but what, you want a guy to be perfect?
I don’t see Joe Kelly coming into your workplace and demanding you be fired when you give up a doinker of a double. I don’t see Joe Kelly watching you through your kitchen window and shouting obscenities as you leave dishes piled in the sink. I don’t see Joe Kelly telling you to never bathe again after you don’t really wash your butt in the shower.
So how about, for a minute, we all think about this:
Joe Kelly is the reigning World Series Champion. He didn’t win a World Series by throwing soft, and he didn’t win the World Series by having only adequate offspeed. He also didn’t win the World Series by listening to the haters. There was a stretch last season (June and July) about as bad as this one. It didn’t stop him from dominating the Yankees, the Astros, and (remember these guys?) the Dodgers in October.
So bear with me here, and bear with Joe Kelly. Better times are ahead.
