I have been confused about when we’ll get news regarding Tacko Fall’s contract status.
Which makes sense, because after looking into it, it sounds like we already have our answer, at least for the next two months.
It turns out the contract Fall signed that put him on the Celtics for Summer League was an Exhibit 10 contract. If you don’t know what that means, you’re not alone, and in an amazing twist, MSN still exists and was the website that gave me the answer. Who’d have thought it? Your dad’s old homepage.
Anyway, from MSN:
An Exhibit 10 contract is a one-year deal worth the minimum salary that guarantees the player will receive a camp invite. Fall, for instance, can either have his Exhibit 10 converted into a two-way contract, or will be waived.
If he is waived, the player will be offered $50,000 to sign with the G League affiliate of whomever (waived) them. Provided he stays on the roster for 60 days, he will earn that $50,000 bonus. The Exhibit 10 contract was created to incentivize players to stay in the G League as opposed to going abroad.
Now, I can’t vouch for the veracity of all that. But I’m going to assume it’s true because I’m tired of trying to figure out what’s going on. Which means I’m going to assume all of the following:
- Tacko Fall will be at the Celtics training camp (which I think starts in September?)
- Tacko Fall could conceivably make the Celtics’ NBA roster at the minimum salary? (I’m very unclear on whether this is possible, or if it has to be a two-way contract if it’s anything)
- Tacko Fall could get a two-way contract allowing him to split time between the Celtics and their G League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws.
- Tacko Fall could get picked up by another NBA team if he’s waived. (Feeling fairly confident on this, but one can never be sure)
- Tacko Fall, in the worst-case scenario, gets to choose between playing for the Red Claws and playing overseas.
- We will find out more in September.
With all that stated, I’m going to shelve the Tacko Fall speculation for the time being and reduce my googlings of “Tacko Fall” and “Tacko Fall contract” and “Tacko Fall NBA” from daily to weekly. If you see something, though, please: say something.
