Well-Rested Burnley Returns to Action

One of the nice things about not having much money is that your players get to rest over international breaks. Bet some other teams are pretty tired right now. Not Burnley, though. The Burnleys are back.

Whom:

Burnley vs. Everton

What:

EPL match number four.

Where:

At Everton, which plays in Liverpool (different pitch from Liverpool this is not a Giants/Jets situation I do not believe that would work well in European football, which says something about the softness of American football)

When:

3:00 PM EDT

How to Watch:

NBCSN! Two straight on the basic package!

What’s at Stake:

Burnley’s not got much to lose. That said, they’re currently 18th in the table, so a point would pull them up out of the relegation zone and a win would vault them all the way to 12th or 13th (it’s so early).

The Odds:

I’m seeing Everton at -150 to win, Burnley at +425, and a draw at +270. So a bit better than a 40% chance of Burnley getting at least a point.

Burnley Squad:

No lineup released yet, but it sounds like Maxwel Cornet’s still questionable, Connor Roberts is out, Nathan Collins and Kevin Long are…questionable it appears, and Dale Stephens is still out.

The Opponent:

Everton enters the match fourth in the EPL in points per match, but their best win is over Brighton and they drew with Leeds. They haven’t finished better than eighth in the table in a few years now, but FiveThirtyEight does have them as the league’s sixth-best club at the moment, in a tight pack with Tottenham and West Ham (all the hams).

Sean Dyche Extension:

Still nothing formal here, and no big news since summer beyond the expectation it’ll happen.

Burnley FC Women:

The Women’s team had a Cup match yesterday and beat Hull City 7-2 in it. It’s the National League Cup, so it’s for teams in the third and fourth tier. Burnley’s now one of…36 teams remaining, I believe.

Partner Clubs:

Cobh Ramblers (Ireland, second tier) lost to Wexford on Friday, and that season’s end can’t come soon enough. No relegation risk there, I don’t think (no formal system for it), but the lads are now just seven points ahead of last in the table with five matches to go. They’ll host third-place Galway United on Saturday.

Ayr United (Scotland, second tier) saw its manager quit last week, but interim (caretaker, as it’s called over there) boss Jim Duffy evidently had the squad ready enough. They beat Dunfermline 3-1 on Saturday to jump to seventh in the ten-team table, in the topmost position of three teams with four points across five matches played. They’ll play the Rangers F.C. U-21 team tomorrow in the Scottish Challenge Cup’s Round of 32. The Cup is for teams outside the premiership as well as Premiership U-21’s, it appears.

Portadown (Northern Ireland, first tier) lost to Linfield and is near the bottom of that table, with just one point over four matches while two teams behind them have no points but have only played twice apiece. Our guys play third-tier Newington Youth tomorrow in the Northern Ireland League Cup’s Round of 32.

Llandudno (Wales, second tier) beat Penrhyncoch on Saturday to climb to third in Cymru North (though they’re only fourth in points per match). Those fellas have now won four of five and have only one loss on the year, which came in their season opener.

Other News:

I’m not seeing anything.

Bertie News:

Nothing new. Due for an incident. Get rid of Covid so Bertie can do more nonsense.
