Good afternoon!
Thank you for humoring us by reading this.
After two and a half months spent learning to care for a baby, I’m ready to declare The Barking Crow back to full strength. The baby is a scrapper, but there are more of us than there are of him. We can do this. We can hold down a low-paying internet job.
There’s a lot going on right now at The Barking Crow. I want to talk you through all of it.
First, the thing the people want: NIT Bracketology. This is the thing we’re really sorry about. There are people in college basketball who rely on our NIT Bracketology for insight, and we have been letting them down. Our NIT Bracketology will begin updating again on Friday, most likely with the “lite” mode of our model. Sometime over the next couple weeks, we’ll get the full model up and running again, with NIT probabilities and NIT Bubble Watch and an index estimating how much gastrointestinal distress is afflicting Archie Miller based on the tension of the creases on his forehead.
Second, the thing the people need: A redesign of our homepage. Sometime (hopefully) this week, we’ll be reshaping the site a little bit to make it easier to navigate. This is long overdue. We wanted to get it done today, but with higher traffic than normal thanks to our article looking back at Divine Providence, we didn’t want to risk accidentally tanking the site.
Third, the thing that makes the people happy and sets the people free: We’re going to have ads up on this site as soon as Google decides we are not too problematic to be their business partner. We’re going to try to introduce these slowly, to ensure that it doesn’t ruin anyone’s experience, but if you find your experience ruined, please tell us. We don’t want to become what Sports Illustrated has become.
Fourth, everything else we do at The Barking Crow: We invested a lot of time capital and energy capital into that Divine Providence article. With it published and nobody burning down our house (yet), we’ll get back to working on a regular cadence for our content. We don’t know how often College Football Morning will publish this offseason. We don’t know how often Stuart McGrath will post Good Things Shrewing or other Notre Dame content. We don’t know whether Joe Stunardi’s published bets are long for this world. We’ll be figuring all that out shortly, though, and I swear: We mean it this time. Unless we don’t actually get the redesigned homepage and site menus up this week. If we fail at that endeavor, we didn’t mean any of this.
Fifth! We have a podcast again. It’s called Free Hoops. Here’s the first episode. I can promise you that it will be quite strange, sometimes boring, and always focused on liberating the NIT from the clutches of NCAA T*urnament occupation. We’ll be releasing episodes weekly on Tuesdays from now until the end of the college basketball season.
I think that’s everything. I think there were only five things. If you are brand new to the site and are wondering what in the world is going on around here, here’s our About Page, and here’s a picture of Tim Miles that always makes me happy. Look at that smile. What a guy.
