We Need to Be Open About Our NIT Fandom

A Friend of the Blog met an alumna this past weekend of one of the greatest schools in the great state of Tennessee. No, said alumna did not go to Memphis, the reigning NIT champions. But said alumna did go to about the next-best thing.

She wouldn’t say so at first, though.

“Small school in Nashville, no one knows it.”

No one?!

NO ONE?!?

DO YOU THINK NOBODY ELSE IN THE WORLD SAT ON THE EDGE OF THEIR SEAT IN MARCH OF 2019 AS GARRISON MATHEWS POURED IN 44 POINTS IN RALEIGH TO LEAD THE LIPSCOMB BISONS TO THEIR FIRST FINAL FOUR APPEARANCE IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND?! DO YOU THINK NOBODY ELSE IN THE WORLD WATCHED CASEY ALEXANDER TAKE HIS RIGHTFUL PLACE IN NEW YORK CITY THE NEXT WEEK ALONG TITANS OF THE GAME SUCH AS SHAKA SMART, JAMIE DIXON, SOME GUY WE AREN’T GOING TO MENTION HERE BECAUSE IT TURNED OUT HE WAS BAD, AND LET’S MENTION SHAKA SMART AGAIN BECAUSE SHAKA SMART IS THE MAN AND HE DESERVES ALL THE MENTIONING IN THE WORLD?! DO YOU THINK NOOOOOOBODY ELSE HAS EVER GIGGLED AT HOW CASEY ALEXANDER LOOKS LIKE A BASKETBALL WEARING A HUMAN BEING COSTUME?!

Ugh.

People.

We need to be comfortable.

We need to be willing to be ourselves.

Because if you aren’t open about your NIT fandom…the next generation surely won’t be either.

It’s about progress. And it starts with us.
