We Need Franmil Reyes and Yasiel Puig in the Same Outfield

Yasiel Puig is six-foot-two and weighs 240 pounds.

Franmil Reyes is six-foot-five and weighs 275 pounds.

Back in June, I voted for both of these men to start the All-Star Game, alongside their shorter compatriot Kyle Schwarber, because I wanted the earth to shake when they took the outfield at Progressive Field.

And while Reyes figures to be used mostly as a designated hitter, that dream is close to becoming a reality.

A Puig/Reyes corner outfield pairing would be one of the most physically impressive position groups since those roided-up Nebraska offensive lines back in the 80’s. The ground might buckle under their collective mass. Home run numbers in Cleveland might drop due to the heightened gravitational pull exerted by the outfielders themselves. Walls might get the Rodney McCray treatment if either man (especially Reyes) got going too fast.

I don’t ask much of Terry Francona. But this request, I make.

For me, Tito.

For the children.

For baseball.
