We Got an Update on the Heist

We got another update on the Heist at the Flying J. (Previous Update 1, Previous Update 2)

The body-camera footage transcript is out from the initial interactions between police and the drivers of the Brink’s Truck that got burglarized, and it doesn’t tell us much information, but it sure paints a picture of the aftermath of the event—the driver coming back to find the lock broken, the interactions between him and his coworker, the conversations with the police and another trucker in the dark.

Two things of note:

First, there was something suspicious enough at the jewelry show that day to warrant mentioning: Both drivers noticed one or more people watching them closely either during the show or while loading the truck. Nothing came of it, but there was more creepy stuff going on than these guys are used to.

Second, there was a weird detail in the initial incident report where the drivers were said to have said they left the show at 12:01 AM, which would have meant making a five-hour drive in two hours. This has been cleared up. The drivers told the deputies they’d picked up the jewelry “six hours” away from the truck stop. So, just a clerical error….OR SO WE THINK. (Probably just a clerical error.)

Obviously, no idea what happened, and not a lot of an idea on what’s happening beyond that the dueling lawsuits we talked about last time are evidently proceeding. But! It sure is fun. Not for the drivers, of course. Or the jewelers, we presume. For the bandits? Maybe not fun for them either. Heists sound stressful. But for us, watching from afar? What a rush. We don’t actually want jewelry heists to happen all the time—that sounds bad for society. But one giving us updates for ten whole months, now? That’s great stuff. Especially with little end in sight. Maybe one could last a few years, and then we could spend a couple years reminiscing, and then we could have another? Two heists a decade doesn’t sound too bad.
