Wait, People Hang Out at Whole Foods?

I went to Whole Foods Wednesday night (no, this was not related to my consumption of a vegetable on Wednesday—I was running low on a specific tea I drink to bring back memories of the 2018 NIT and I figured I’d treat myself to those weird little ice cream dumplings since I’d made a little extra driving a half-Irish family from the airport to Cedar Park). It was as expected. Except for one thing:

There were people just hanging out there, drinking wine. And not outside on the sidewalk around the corner from the entrance, either (the H-E-B nearby says that’s a misdemeanor…which implies it’s not a felony!). In the store. At a bar in the store.

Now, I knew this happened at good, God-fearing Hy-Vee, but at Whole Foods? You people hang out at a health food store? It’s one thing to get yourself a little bit tipsy next to the eight-hour-old donuts from a grocery store bakery. It’s another to make yet another aspect of your life revolve around the place that greets you with the world’s largest stack of charcoal soap right when you walk through the door.

This isn’t meant as a criticism. As someone who has been questioned for the location of my own personal milk consumption, I understand the importance of supporting all people as they drink whatever beverage they want in whatever place they want.

I’m just surprised. I never knew.
