There are always questions about Venice. The canals, the gondoliers, is it an island, how is it an island if there are canals inside it, are there any islands inside the canals (island-inside-island style), is the thing named after Venus, is this thing named after the Latin verb for ‘to come,’ do Italians like it or is it only an international thing, etc. These are just a few. There are other questions about Venice. Such as: When did these guys get a film festival?
I’m familiar with the concepts of Sundance and Cannes. I get confused about whether Cannes is in France or in Australia, but I’m familiar with the concepts. Venezia, though? Or whatever they’re calling this one? Unfamiliar. First I’m hearing of it. But I’m hearing of it all over the place. A sampling of headlines:
“Brendan Fraser Breaks Down in Tears as ‘The Whale’ Gets Huge 6-Minute Standing Ovation in Venice”

So, Venice. If there were a festival for NIT bloggers I think it’d be in Omaha. Think I saw they’re getting Google Fiber soon.
