From the city that brought you USC vs. BYU, and St. John’s vs. BYU, and a bunch of other games that we aren’t going to take the time to look up right now, and also an Eastern Connecticut casino, and evidently the Connecticut Suns…
USC vs. UConn.
Is it an NIT championship preview? It’s far too early to say. And yet, we’ll say it. We’ll say that it might be. Because these teams are capable of being good, and capable of being bad, and they play in conferences with thick enough bottom halves to give them the wins they need to get good seeds if their NIT dreams do pan out.
What a Thursday.
Other notes:
- Boston College looks for a big win against Florida, which would serve them well in their attempt to get people to say, “Don’t sleep on Boston College.”
- Utah and Washington play, and I’m not sure if it’s a Pac-12 game or a nonconference game, but either way, both are theoretical NIT participants (Utah more so than Washington right now).
- Lot of other NIT hopefuls in action tonight, but most aren’t playing one another and are just playing low-majors, so we’re going to ignore them.
- In last night’s action, San Francisco continued to not disappoint, blowing the doors off the Lawlor Events Center (that’s where Nevada plays). Duquesne picked up a nice nonconference win over UNCG in Louisville. Iowa State flailed against South Dakota State. Penn State got an important W, evading VCU. Rhode Island pulled themselves back up on the dock, wiping out Seton Hall at home. Alabama flashed the brilliance that will make them such a popular NITitle pick if all goes according to plan. Providence flashed the ineptitude that makes them such a darling for a first-round NIT road game. Mizzou did something dumb. Very dumb. Disappointingly dumb. And St. John’s broke our little hearts. But only a little bit. Still intact.
See you tomorrow.
