Uh Oh, Liverpool—Burnley’s Coming to Town

The nice thing about the manner in which Burnley owns Liverpool is that Burnley could lose 8-0 to Liverpool tomorrow and Burnley would still own Liverpool.

Whom:

Burnley vs. Liverpool

What:

EPL match number 2 of 38.

Where:

Anfield. Burnley’s home away from home.

When:

6:30 AM American Central Daylight Time

How to Watch:

Peacock Premium (boo!!!!!!!!!)

What’s at Stake:

Not a lot. If Burnley wins or draws, it’s another chapter in the greatest prank God’s ever pulled on the tenth-largest English district by population. If Liverpool wins, it’s just the world going according to expectations.

The Odds:

I’m seeing Burnley at +1500 to win, a draw at +525, and Liverpool at -525 to win. So about a 20% chance of at least a point, which is better than I’d have guessed.

Burnley Squad:

Pretty healthy crew, from the sound of it.

The Opponent:

Liverpool’s good. Always good. FiveThirtyEight says they’re the second-best team in the EPL right now, and FiveThirtyEight is a little cooler on them in this particular match than the market is.

Transfers, Sean Dyche Extension:

Some transfer noise, no transfer action. With the Dyche extension, it still sounds good to go, just not fully ironed-out yet.

Burnley FC Women:

The women’s club plays its second league match of the year Sunday, hosting Nottingham Forest.

Partner Clubs:

Cobh Ramblers (Ireland, second tier) play University College Dublin tomorrow, trying to narrow the likely insurmountable gap between themselves and the promotion playoffs.

Ayr United (Scotland, second tier) plays its third league match of the year tomorrow up at Inverness Caledonian Thistle, which is quite the name for a club.

Portadown (Northern Ireland, first tier) doesn’t start league play for another week.

Llandudno (Wales, second tier) returns to league play tomorrow, visiting Holywell Town, who trails them in the table after four matches.

Other News:

The Burnley/Newcastle Carabao Cup match is scheduled for Wednesday.
