Trying Times for the Burnleys

Not good. Not good at all. The Burnleys dropped another one. Three matches into a 38-match slate and we are pointless, folks. Don’t like it.

The Result:

Newcastle United defeated our beloved Clarets 3-1.

How It Happened:

Allan Saint-Maximin pumped in an opener before the day was fifteen minutes old. Ashley Westwood tied it up a quarter-hour after halftime, but within five minutes Callum Wilson had given the Castles (ok, the Magpies, which is actually pretty cool and has a tie to how this blog got its name) the lead again, and he notched the dagger on a penalty shortly thereafter.

What It Means:

The likelihood of Burnley suffering relegation is up to 31%, per FiveThirtyEight, and as you might imagine, that means the Europa League odds are quite low. It also means there’s a general sense of frustration around. Gotta nip that in the bud.

What’s Next:

Burnley gets a nice, nearly two-week break before visiting West Bromwich Albion, the alleged worst team in the Premier League. So there’s some reason to hope for a reset, especially as it pertains to getting the front line back.

Other News:

In another cause for optimism, Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson subbed in during the second half, bringing the injured count down to five, I believe: Ben Mee, Jay Rodriguez, Robbie Brady, Matt Lowton, Jack Cork. It sounds like Mee and Rodriguez might be back for the West Brom game. Also, the Transfer Window closes tomorrow evening, but trades with non-EPL-but-still-English clubs will be an option until a week from Friday.

General Thoughts:

Cats are cool because it’s always pretty clear what’s going on in their heads, even if that thing is feline chaos. It’s a simple thing. Hard to be frustrated with cats.

Burnley Thoughts:

I hope Sean Dyche has a cat.
