The cannonballs have seen better days than today.
First, I was a day late. Usually, I try to cannonball on Wednesday so I can get the water out of my ears, edit the video, and get it up on Thursday for the people. That didn’t happen this week for a variety of reasons, many of which were within my control.
Second, I think I creeped a woman out. I think she was younger than me, and she was swimming laps as I scouted out the best location for a cannonball at this pool. She got out right as I was about to jump in, and I thought, “Perfect! She is leaving!” (An open swim lane is a great place to do a cannonball. No chance of hitting a bystander with your body.) But she took her time, which led to me glancing over a lot while trying to look like I wasn’t glancing over. This led her to notice me glancing over a lot while trying to look like I wasn’t glancing over. She gave me a dirty look. Then, she laid her towel down and started meditating, right by the corner of the pool. I went to the other end of the swim lane and did my cannonballs.
Third, I planned to just do one cannonball. I was short on time, and I thought, “This will work well. I will do one cannonball, put some text on it about how sometimes life only gives you the opportunity to do one cannonball, set it to inspirational music, and go #viral on #socialmedia.” I must have bumped the stop button. I got five seconds of video of myself setting up the camera, then nothing. And because I’d done a cannonball already, I was wet. I had to take a second video. I had to do a second cannonball. If I tried to say that life only gave me the opportunity to do one cannonball while dripping wet, it would be clear that I was lying. No one would take me seriously. I would not go #viral. The result? Not the best cannonball video of the summer. Excited to combat the ocean next week, though.
As always, here’s the depth tracker.
