Last year, it was that Wild Card Series loss in Game 2. The year before that, it was some weeknight signoff before a busy weekend left me away from the radio. In 2018, it was the tiebreaker game—I watched the Wild Card Game on TV. In 2017, it was sometime in the NLCS, from the cubicle, working late. In 2016, it was the final out.
This year, it might’ve been last night.
It’s always sad, hearing Pat & Ron for the last time. It’s an epilogue to summer, and it often ends on a note of defeat, or in the case of last night’s, a note like the shell of a victory. It’s a marking of the passage of time. It’s a goodbye.
But next spring, I assume, they’ll be on the radio again. I don’t pay attention to radio commentators’ contract status, but there’s little reason to believe this will have been a finale for this edition of the Pat & Ron Show. If that changes, sure, we’ll react, but for the time being, we can wait on spring. And all the excitement that will hold.
‘Til next time, guys. Thanks for hanging out on all those Stuber Eats deliveries.
