They Did Catch *a* Serial Killer in Austin

There are two bad things happening here, and one is much worse than the other:

The worse one is that a guy allegedly killed some people in Austin. He’s 62, he was in prison for eleven years earlier in his life for a terrible crime, he told police last week that he’s the guy responsible for two other murders in recent years. He was arrested this week.

The one that isn’t as bad is that through my initial humor and eventual exasperation with true crime fans/perverts, I’ve blogged myself into a place where I feel the need to blog about every serial killer/water death-adjacent development in the city I call home. I think I have to address this latest thing because I think I want to be ready for the true crime sickos to hit me with either “Well there was that one serial killer, so this stuff does happen,” or, “Did you hear they caught the serial killer?!”

This guy almost certainly has no association with the deaths in the Colorado River/Lady Bird Lake in Austin (one of which, I want to stress again, has a witness who saw the drunk guy fall into the water). But, yeah, he killed some people. It’s really messed up. Hopefully he was responsible for more of the unsolved murders on APD’s list, because it’s good when murders get solved, but there isn’t a lot more to say than that. It’s gross and sad and freaky. That’s the true part of this “true crime” shit.
