Now listen here, NASCAR fans. We’ve got a big weekend ahead of us.
Today: NASCAR at Dover. (Cup Series, of course—we would be overwhelmed trying to cover more than that.)
Tomorrow: NASCAR at Dover again. (Still Cup Series—seems like they may have named the race the same thing? Power move. I like it.)
Also Tomorrow: The Indy 500, which is not NASCAR but does involve milk and oh no, I really hope they still do the milk thing in Victory Lane.
The storyline for the Dover doubleheader is just playoff berths. Will Jimmie Johnson get one? Will another driver outside the top 14 grab a win and shrink the field by one? As it stands, Matt DiBenedetto’s in 13th, 19 points ahead of William Byron, who’s in turn 25 points ahead of Johnson. Martin Truex Jr. and Kevin Harvick are the favorites. Chase Elliott and Denny Hamlin are also contenders. Kyle Busch still has yet to win but is always liable to win. The #PenskeBoys (Ryan Blaney, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano) will be there. Johnson will be there. All the other drivers will be there because that’s how it works in NASCAR they’re all always there.
Vroom vroom.
