Say what you will about Tony La Russa, but he’s somehow made the White Sox more likable.
Not organizationally, of course. An organization that hires Tony La Russa is not likable.
But individually, even more likable. And they were already likable individually.
If I’m onto the White Sox (and I think I’m onto the White Sox), here’s the plan:
- Let nature continue to take its course. La Russa alienates player after player, the White Sox start skidding.
- With the division title mildly (but not significantly) in doubt come July, fire Tony La Russa.
- Name Tim Anderson interim player-manager.
- Win the World Series.
It’s foolproof, and if the White Sox are doing what they should do, they are doing this. Hopefully, as someone who would prefer the White Sox to not win the World Series, I’m wrong. But I’m decently afraid I’m right.
you’re not not onto us.
