The Stanley Cup Playoffs are well underway, and I would like to point out that the Senators would already be into the semifinals or whatever they’re calling it by now had they simply been invited to the party. As evidenced by:
The Jets are already into the second round.
Over the final seven times the teams met this regular season, the Senators beat the Jets four times and only lost thrice, effectively winning the seven-game series.
Over the last six games the two played, the Senators beat the Jets four times and only lost twice, meaning the series probably wouldn’t have to go seven games.
No one else from the North Division is already into the second round.
Facts matter.
In other Senators news, Vitalii Abramov—evidently a solid prospect—signed a two-year contract with a team in the KHL. I don’t know much about Abramov, so I’m just regurgitating here, but basically it sounds like there just wasn’t space for him. Abundance of riches stuff. We of course wish him the best of luck, and if the thing we’re seeing about the Senators possibly retaining his NHL rights turns out accurate and consequential, we’ll be excited to see him back in Ottawa.
