The Senators Didn’t Win the Draft Lottery

Ok, let’s start with the bad news:

The Senators didn’t get the first overall pick in the NHL Draft.

I’m not sure whether that was or wasn’t possible, but either way, didn’t happen. Sometimes you win the lottery, sometimes you don’t win the lottery. That’s my understanding of lotteries.

They will pick 10th, and that’s cool, because when you factor in Ottawa’s superior scouting and development operations, it means the Sens’ll probably end up getting yet another stud, leaving nine other teams saying, “Gee, Jeff. Those Senators really did it again, huh?”

So I guess the good news is that the Senators will still win the 2021 NHL Draft.

Only other news for the week is that Viktor Lodin got a contract. As a rather new Senators fan myself, I didn’t know Lodin existed, but it sounds like that doesn’t matter. He’s 22, he was the fourth-round pick in 2019, and now he’s officially going to play for a Senators team, either in Ottawa or Belleville.

See you next week. Or the week after. Or, you know, sometime in the future. I’ll be around.
