The NL East Must Have Some Really Bad Players

I was looking at the fWAR leaderboard last night, and, well, check this out:

1. Shohei Ohtani (7.9)
2. Corbin Burnes (7.7)
3. Zack Wheeler (7.0)
4. Juan Soto (6.7)
5. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (6.6)
6. Bryce Harper (6.6)
7. Marcus Semien (6.5)
8. José Ramírez (6.4)
9. Fernando Tatís Jr. (6.2)
10. Trea Turner (6.2)
11. Cedric Mullins II (5.7)
12. Starling Marte (5.6)
13. Jacob deGrom (5.4)

Those bolded guys? All in the NL East. All probably going to miss the playoffs.

Those guys in italics? Both traded out of the NL East. Were on teams that were going to miss the playoffs. The NL East has some of the best players in the game, and it has none of the best teams in the game, and it stands to reason that some players in the NL East must be absolutely terrible this year.

It’s a weird list, overall. Even the non-bold, non-italic guys are, aside from Burnes, probably spending October at home. Wacky. Consider me struck.
