The NIT Is Safe…For Now

Whew. Per Andy Katz, NCAA SVP (I think that stands for Dude Who Runs Things) of Basketball Dan Gavitt released the following statement on yesterday’s attempt to take away the NIT for a year (censorship is our own doing):

Every college basketball team’s goal is to play in the NCA* ********nt because everyone loves March Madness. Certainly we missed it this year and can’t wait for 2021. While all who care about the game are entitled to their opinion, and we’ll always listen respectfully, at this time we are not working on any contingency plan that involves expanding the tournament field.

It’s not exactly the most definite endorsement of the 2021 NIT surviving, so stay vigilant, but we’ll take it for now, while eying Gavitt from afar as a potential ally in this crusade.
