The Lightning Were, Indeed, the Best Team in Hockey

The Tampa Bay Lightning won the Stanley Cup last night, and our model is finished for the year. In the end, Gelo did see the Lightning as the best team in hockey, but only narrowly ahead of the Avalanche. Meanwhile, the Canadiens slot in between the Hurricanes and the Wild as the ninth-best NHL squad.

We’ll be doing a lot of backtesting on our model this offseason, and we’ll be trying to refine Gelo and add offensive and defensive components. We won’t be doing any of that until September, though, I wouldn’t guess (late August at the earliest), so as far as our NHL coverage goes, expect just Stu’s Senators roundups from here until summer’s end.

Congratulations to the Lightning fans in our readership. Condolences to the Canadiens fans. I would make a Rays/Expos joke but I think that might hit too close to home for everyone involved.
