It’s been a month since we last updated you on our grievances, and since one of you asked about Fetch this morning, we thought it time to revisit the topic. When we last spoke, three grievances remained: The air conditioning was broken, our wifi had weak range, and Fetch continued to exist. To be clear, again, we like the place, no complaints. Besides these. Here’s where we’re at with each:
The Air Conditioning
This one was rough. Kept being up around eighty degrees at the end of the day, and our apartment is evidently very well-insulated and does not have much airflow, making it inexpensive to heat and cool but very hard to cool down without AC. We submitted a request on a Sunday, it didn’t get fixed for eight days after that, for probably four, on and off, we were sweating/panting it out in the hours of the night. We were told on the second of the eight days that we’d have to wait for the eighth because the maintenance man thought the AC unit just needed more freon, and he evidently couldn’t add that until it was eighty degrees outside (curious if that’s a law or a building rule or just a code by which he lives—hope it’s the third one because that’d be the funniest). If you’re doing the math, yes, it was frequently warmer in here than outside. Really, really hard to cool this place down with natural air.
Finally, on the eighth day, at the very end of the day, the maintenance man came, and it turned out…the unit on the roof was turned off. Breaker was flipped. That was it. We hadn’t thought to check, since the fan was running and we had power everywhere else, he hadn’t thought to check, because…I don’t know, my impression is that he was hoping for the easiest fix and got, poetically, one even easier than he anticipated.
Anyway, AC works great now, not too concerned about future issues, shouldn’t run into that sub-eighty degree issue again if it does break because, well, we live in Texas. Most of the time when you need AC, it is eighty degrees. At least.
The Wifi
We appreciate all your suggestions. We’ve used none of them. We want to, it just hasn’t been a high priority. Did add a little extender from AT&T for cheap, and upped our speed (since the wifi was just kinda bad overall), but we haven’t plugged the extender in yet, and it sounds like the speed won’t increase for a few more days. More to come. Hoping that works but excited to try all your high-fangled solutions if it doesn’t work. I want to be able to connect my internet to the netherworld, and I think your solutions will help me do that.
Fetch
Finally, Fetch. Much more to come on this. Nothing terrible has happened since all the terrible things happened, but it still exists, and that’s a problem. Much more to come.
