Maryland is baffling.
Not the state. I think I get the state pretty well (crabs, lacrosse, being much longer end-to-end than people realize, et cetera).
The basketball team.
Over the last 33 days, the Maryland Terrapins have done the following:
- Lost to Clemson and Rutgers.
- Beaten La Salle.
- Lost at Purdue and Indiana.
- Beaten Wisconsin in Madison.
- Lost at home to Michigan and Iowa.
- Beaten Illinois in Champaign.
Everything makes sense. Except for the non-La Salle wins. How did they do it? Why did they do it? Will we get to see them in the NIT?
This confounds.
Other notes for today:
- Wichita State won a bubble game over Cincinnati.
- Xavier’s one-point evasion of Providence was absolutely perfect (even if we’re still mad it happened so early in the morning).
- San Francisco lost a tough one on the road to Loyola Marymount. On the bright side, LMU has a non-zero NIT shot. (Four-bid WCC??)
- Drexel lost again, so don’t think about them for a while in the CAA.
- Loyola lost at Indiana State, ruining our dream of two MVC teams going undefeated in conference and both ending up in the NIT because Arch Madness rocks.
- Navy keeps winning, and Colgate isn’t on their schedule. Just saying (gonna make a big play for the troop-supporters if this works out).
- If you thought those 48-45 finals on Saturday were great, check this out: Maine beat NJIT 45-41 yesterday in Newark. In Newark! 86 points!
- Utah’s still sitting riiiiight on the edge of getting into the picture. They host Colorado tonight.
- Boise State’s got a dangerous one in Laramie. I wonder if they’re letting Cowboy Ken into games up there.
