It’s been a hard week for Joe Kelly.
After being placed on the Bereavement List on Friday for unspecified reasons (obviously, we wish Kelly and his family all the best and, if this is due to a death, as is customary, we send our condolences), Kelly rejoined the Dodgers prior to last night’s game.
In the eighth inning, with the Dodgers leading 8-3, Kelly entered. Three batters later, he left, having allowed two singles surrounding an Adeiny Hechavarria home run.
Now, as Joe Kelly will later do for these same teammates, his teammates picked him up. They staked him to that five-run lead to begin with, and added an insurance run the next inning. Also, Dylan Floro and Kenley Jansen pitched scoreless ball in relief of him.
So, everything turned out fine. And rest assured, Joe Kelly will have brighter moments. But in the meantime, it was meaningful to see his fellow Dodgers rally together.
Long live Joe Kelly.
