The Buffalo Blue Jays Have Been Fun

The Blue Jays may soon be Toronto-bound once more, and while I’m happy for our friends to the north, I’m sorry for Buffalo, where home runs could theoretically be hit onto that highway behind left field, and probably would be hit onto that highway behind left field were Vladimir Guerrero Jr. given enough attempts to hit them there.

There’s been something novel about these games in Buffalo. It always catches my eye when I see a highlight from one—a little, “Wait a second, that’s not a major league park I know!” Like when they play at Williamsport.

I was going to write about how Major League Baseball should make this a thing—sneak a few games into unusual places, just to mix it up. Buy out fans’ tickets or bus ‘em to the new spot or just put in the fine print: “Hey, this Reds game might get moved to a quaint little field outside of Knoxville.” But I don’t think that’d work as well as it works in my head, which is to say that it would get spoiled early and would be too logistically challenging for Major League Baseball to pull off (I don’t trust those guys to not end up accidentally losing a team in the wilderness).

So, I guess we should enjoy Buffalo while it lasts. Hopefully Vlad hits the highway.
