The Best Things Happen in Reno

Scott Van Pelt said it best last night.

And while Colorado State’s not in today’s updated NIT Bracketology, they’re a lot closer than they were.

Here’s the NITuation:

Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song): Western Kentucky

Big Red! No!!!!!

WKU fell to Old Dominion, and we may no longer get to see our favorite mascot in our favorite tournament.

Life is hard sometimes.

Moving In: Toledo

In happier news, it’s possible we wrote Toledo off too soon. Our model has them losing the MAC Tournament more often than winning it, yet it still has them in the field. Good sign for space exploration.

Teams Too Likely to Win Their Conference Tournament

Winthrop would be between Mississippi and Indiana but they’re expected to finish the job in the Big South (if they don’t, that’s a bad loss that’ll probably pull them down out of the field).

Next in Line:

Below the field, from closest to close:

Stanford
Western Kentucky
St. John’s
Belmont
Navy
Marshall
North Carolina State
Richmond
Kentucky
Dayton
Loyola Marymount

Next out of Line

Above the field, from closest to close:

Boise State
Colorado State
Xavier
SMU
Wichita State
Virginia Tech
North Carolina
Rutgers
Colgate
Maryland
Oklahoma
UCLA

***

And that’s the NITuation.

Today’s other notes:

  • VCU beat Dayton, so the Flyers are, barring a bunch of opt-outs, likely…grounded. Next up is Davidson.
  • Our beloved San Francisco Dons finished their season (unless they play in the CBI?) falling to Loyola Marymount. Live by the sword and whatnot.
  • North Texas exits the NITuation after getting bopped by UAB.
  • Drake got to avoid a tightrope game against UNI. Lose today to Missouri State and the Bulldogs should be feeling pretty good.
  • SLU plays the Bonnies this evening. Don’t do anything rash now, guys.
  • Another round of Duke/UNC. Stakes remain similar. Each could move towards NIT stability with a Duke win.
  • Minnesota hosts Rutgers, trying to pull their chin above the bar like me in a futile third-grade fitness test.
  • Seton Hall visits St. John’s in a symbiosis opportunity.
  • Indiana visits Purdue. Shouldn’t be an issue, but just in case: Don’t do it, Hoosiers.
  • Xavier goes to Marquette. Just the right amount of disappointing if they lose it.
  • Georgia hosts Alabama. Hail Mary time for Tom Crean.
  • Saint Mary’s tries to lock themselves in, the first step of which is probably beating Loyola Marymount tonight.
  • Mississippi hosts Vandy. Just take care of business, guys.
  • Old Dominion/Western Kentucky rematch.
  • Utah State visits Fresno State, and it does not want what Fresno State gave Boise State the other night.
  • Wichita State hosts USF. A different loss might be better for them.

Another long day ahead, folks. Soak it in.
