The Air Has Tides

Bad news, everybody.

The air has tides.

Per Wikipedia:

Atmospheric tides are global-scale periodic oscillations of the atmosphere. In many ways they are analogous to ocean tides. Atmospheric tides can be excited by:

  • The regular day–night cycle in the Sun’s heating of the atmosphere (insolation)
  • The gravitational field pull of the Moon
  • Non-linear interactions between tides and planetary waves.
  • Large-scale latent heat release due to deep convection in the tropics.

Just awful, awful news. First of all, ever heard of appropriation, air? Secondly, how are we supposed to know when airboats can go out to air? Third, if the sun and the moon have learned to work together to manipulate our air pressure, we’re in deep trouble, because rapid swings in air pressure are tied to higher heart attack rates and I’ve said some real mean stuff lately on Sun-and-Moon-God forums.

So, yeah, sorry about incurring their wrath. If you look at the air and it’s way lower than it was twelve hours ago and also you’re having chest pains, now you know why.
