1. Depth helps.
Jericho Sims didn’t have the best night, and it didn’t matter, because Kai Jones had a great night. There might not be one dominant force on Texas’s team, but there are a lot of options, which was part of what worked so well early in the season.
2. Jase Febres looked good.
And there might be one more option on the list now. In his most significant run since last year’s knee injury, Febres made things happen, hitting three of four three-point attempts and logging 21 minutes.
3. Kai Jones was aggressive.
The big man went at the Cyclones, and it worked. He got himself ten free throw attempts. It helped that he made nine of the ten, but getting them, alongside all the other consequences of going at the hoop, was big.
4. Greg Brown also got to the line.
Five of five for the freshman! Like to see that.
5. That box is now checked.
Now, Texas just has one competitive game and what should be another box-checking before the Big 12 Tournament. Not saying the game Saturday will be a box-checking…but it should be.
