Tax Hack: Turn Out the Lights

So, yes, it isn’t really Tax Day. The IRS is accepting returns until sometime in May, presumably because they want to hold off on sending out refunds? But for those of us in the gig economy and other self-employed industries, it’s quarterly tax day.

Unless we’re in Texas!

Turns out that if your state’s power grid is run incompetently enough, you get to turn in your taxes two months later than everybody else (for 2021 only, provided this doesn’t become an annual thing and oh boy do I hope it doesn’t become an annual thing). Which was a big relief for a certain NIT blogger on Tuesday night.

Thanks, ERCOT, for looking out for the common man.
