Stu’s Notes: Will Joe Kelly Ever Make an All-Star Game?

Joe Kelly’s not starting the All-Star Game tonight, for reasons we assume are related to Dusty Baker being a real punk. In all likelihood, we admit, Joe Kelly will never start the All-Star Game. But it’s not hard to believe Joe Kelly could one day make an All-Star Game. The case:

Joe Kelly Isn’t That Old

34? He’s got time left.

Joe Kelly Is Electric

When Joe Kelly is on, he is on. The man’s hot streaks are ridiculous. The 2018 postseason. The 2019 year post-bobblehead night. Even this past weekend, he was striking batters out all over the place.

Sometimes, Joe Kelly Sustains That Electricity

Had the halves of the 2019 season been flipped, and had Joe Kelly been a lockdown reliever out of the gate for the Dodgers after dominating the 2018 World Series, I really think we might’ve gotten an all-star nod for our guy. There was a 25-appearance stretch that year where he had a 1.13 ERA. 1.13 ERA’s get you to the All-Star Game.

The White Sox Might Stink Next Year

We can all see it, White Sox. You might go into a meltdown. And if you do, and if it’s severe enough, you might only get one All-Star next season. If Joe Kelly’s ERA’s under 2.00, he’s gotta be the guy, right?

The notes should start expanding again tomorrow, then should be fairly normal on Thursday and Friday. Unclear about next week. July’s a wild time, folks. I think we can all agree on that. Even you, Dusty Baker. In the meantime, enjoy the All-Star Game tonight. Even you, Dusty Baker.
