Joe Kelly rocked Padre socks last night, returning to California to strike out one in a third of an inning of work.
The performance dropped Kelly’s FIP, on the year, to 3.17, left his xERA at 3.23, and raised his K% to 30.7%, almost all career bests. So, given Joe Kelly is one of the few active pitchers with two World Series rings, and given Joe Kelly is pitching at his top lifetime level, it stands to reason:
Joe Kelly is the best pitcher in the game right now.

Viewing schedule for the day:
10:00 AM EDT: Burnley @ Cardiff City
Burnley’s underway in Wales, and due to our great respect for the Welsh (one time my brother and I were Wales for a World Cup-themed beer pong tournament, but we decided to be whales instead, bought shirts with leviathans on them, and blowholed beers [spat them up into the air and down onto my face]) we will not say anything mean about Cardiff City, which is on the rebound after a terrible stretch in the 80s and 90s but couldn’t hold onto the Premier League when they recently broke through.
As for the city: It’s the capital of Wales, and it’s got about 350,000 people, so it’s basically the Honolulu of England.
2:20 PM EDT: Reds @ Cubs (MLB TV)
The Cubs remain hot.
8:40 PM EDT: White Sox @ Padres (MLB TV)
Will he do it again?? (Probably not. He usually doesn’t pitch on back-to-back days.)
12:00 PM EDT: Illinois @ Wisconsin (ESPN+)
3:30 PM EDT: Wake Forest @ Florida State (ESPN2)
7:30 PM EDT: West Virginia @ Texas (FS1)
10:30 PM EDT: Arizona State @ USC (ESPN)
A smorgasbord of messy games, including our very own Texas Longhorns.
7:00 PM EDT: Canadiens @ Senators (ESPN+)
The Sens look to continue playing meaningless preseason games.
