I like to think Tuesday is named what it is because there was a guy named Stu and he just crushed it on Tuesdays and gradually, as languages changed, the “s” at the front got dropped.
Happy Birthday, Fargo
It’s the puppy’s first birthday today, and we’ve spent much of the day celebrating, which is how we spend much of every day. Official tributes here, here, and go back to our homepage in half an hour or so to see a little essay from Stuart on the occasion.
Who Is Kieran Trippier and Do I Hate Him?
Need to get more information on this, but a guy named Kieran Trippier who played for Atletico Madrid up until an hour or so ago is on his way to Newcastle after once saying, not that long ago, that he wanted to finish his career at Burnley and wouldn’t want to come back to England to play for a team other than Burnley. Hate it. We hate it. Do we hate him? Well, we’ll withhold judgment there. For now. Ready to hate, though.
There Aren’t That Many Bowls
Lost in the “there are way too many bowls” takes is that there aren’t that many bowls. There were only two or three days there that were just full of bowls. Compare that to college basketball’s conference tournament weeks? Hardly any bowls. Not saying we need more of them or fewer of them, but bowl season feels smaller in hindsight than it does when it’s on the approach.
Anyway, last bowl of the season tonight, because the national championships aren’t bowls.
Game of the NITe
The ACC has two strong contenders here, and really, if you’re willing to pay ESPN eight bucks a month or whatever it is (the takeaway here is that the NIT is a moneymaker), you’re able to watch both of them on ESPN+, since they’re sequential. We’re talking, of course, about Florida State’s trip to Wake Forest and Virginia’s trip to Clemson. In the former, Florida State’s a narrow road underdog trying to play their way into the NIT from above while Wake Forest is trying to establish themselves more fully above the bottom cutline. In the latter, Virginia is trying not to fall too far out of the picture while Clemson tries not to rise too far above the picture.
We’ll give the nod to Virginia/Clemson because it’s more likely to end up in the 40’s. Good luck out there, guys.

Tonight’s viewing schedule, because I don’t pay for ESPN+, is Texas A&M/Georgia at 6:00 PM Texas Time on ESPNU (you would not believe how far Tom Crean is outside of the NIT picture, but Buzz Williams has his guys close, and I feel like the broadcast is going to hype this as a good win for A&M when it’d be a disastrous loss) followed by Providence/Marquette at 8:00 PM Texas Time on FS1 (Shaka Smart’s looking for his first Big East win after a heartbreaker against Creighton on Saturday).
Godspeed. Wish my dog a happy birthday on Instagram, please.
